It's a movie that you have seen MANY times before: a perfectly wonderful boring place where residents have created someplace that they think is unique and special... Then pull pack the veneer and horrid things exist. It's kind of a boring film.
There was a nugget of a good idea there... but there wasn't really enough built around that nugget to make a film. As a result, it was slow, followed by moments of near-cartoon-like bloodshed. And after watching it, you are left with the question: What the hell was that?
Oh, FFS people! Quit trying to paste whatever your beliefs are onto an expansion of Margaret Atwood's 1985 book. She's a Canadian that has some great YouTube videos that will allow you to better understand her views. In this show, there are no "transgender kids". There is no "Trump". None of that is in there. But... there IS a fictional christian-faith-influenced authoritarian overthrow of the US government (influenced by a birthrate drop from pollution and inorganic farming.) The show is a good one, as it tells a story of those caught up in the minority and those who become refugees. HOWEVER... if you REALLY want a terrifying apocalyptic view, then just go and talk with a committed evangelical christian in the USA and how quickly they are willing to overthrow everything for a faith based government.
Great flick. A fantastic, extremely violent fairy tale. The artwork was stunning, the wastelands done so well. Fantasy and imagination brought to life the screen. If you didn't enjoy it, well, that says more about you than it does this film. Oh well.
A perfectly good apocalyptic film about a dysfunctional family dealing (or in their case NOT dealing) with the upcoming annellation of humanity... Absolutely RUINED by pasting on a happy ending in the last minute of the film. What a gutless move!
"A "formula film" refers to a movie that relies on a tried-and-true, predictable structure and plot elements to appeal to a broad audience, often prioritizing entertainment over originality. These films frequently feature well-established tropes and character archetypes, leading to a sense of familiarity and, for some, a lack of innovation." Bad guys bad. Ex Military guys with "unique set of skills". Young woman in peril. Bad guys die. In short: It kinda sucked. I quit caring well before the end of the film. I'm sure Statham got a big enough paycheck to allow him to ignore just how bad this was.
This is just a stupid film. A bad documentary trying to pose as a sci-fi movie, which happens to be also bad. Yes. No question, there are horrible things going on right now... but this was just crap.
I've already stopped it twice and came back to it... and I'm only half-way there. A movie that focuses on a dysfunctional family ends up being a very dysfunctional movie.
This is a unique slice of Americana. Jeff Daniels is an astounding actor and Michigan resident. Being a Michigander is one thing, but this film pays tribute (?) to a unique culture of the residents of Michigan's Upper Peninsula: Da Yoopers. (Upper Peninsula = U.P. = Yooper.) You will go with Jeff to deer camp where he will attempt to shoot his first deer and break years of bad luck. Anyone in the great American Midwest knows that "deer camp" is an excuse to drink massive amounts of alcohol and use high powered weapons. While that would likely be enough to have a film, other "stuff" happens that really drives the comedy to new levels. Recommended. And for those viewing from other countries worldwide: Yes, this is America. And now, viewing this, you understand.
Ghostbusters with a higher IQ and a British accent. It's a good watch! . PS... There has NOT been a season 2... so there should not be season 2 episodes. It was cancelled by Amazon. :(
Quite possibly the worst thing that Andy Kaufman has ever done. And Bernadette Peters as well! This is a case where the core idea was good... and then bad decisions by the studio ended up doing EVERTHING wrong. The studio wanted to cash in on the post-Star Wars robot interest, but rather than allowing comedians to be funny, they turned this into a glacially paced robot love story. SO S L O W ! ! ! This is a film that you may end up watching, just to be among the few people on this planet that actually can say that they saw it. Wiki: "Kaufman felt the movie was so bad that he personally apologized for it on Late Night with David Letterman, and as a joke, promised to refund the money of everyone who paid to see it." There are no redeeming values. These are not the droids that you are looking for.
If you are a Sci-Fi aficionado, then Space 1999 is a mandatory watch. But don't expect it to be "good" by 2025 standards. It's a TV show from 1975. But compared to Gerry Anderson's other works ("Thunderbirds", "UFO"), this is some award-winning big-budget stuff! :) (Reminder: Star Wars wasn't until 1977)
Dammit... S05e10 feels like the end of the show. Definitely the end of the season of course, but it seems to wrap up everything far too well so that if they end it now then it's done and closed. No news of a Season Six renewal so far. Hope it does, but if not, it's been a great 5 seasons!
Great alternative universe viewing. Yes, Superman was a character that sold seats in theaters to kids... but it was also American propaganda. This animation just lays out the idea: What if the world spun just a bit more before the rocket that bore superman landed. And that it landed in Russia. What then? Interesting idea of Superman being the hero of the proletariat.
